The annual Elks Hoop-Shoot Contest is sponsored by the Cary-Apex Elks.

This community event is a free free-throw contest for boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 13. The first-place winners of each age group will go on to compete at the next level of competition, also free of charge.

The Hoop-Shoot event will be held on Saturday, Jan. 10, at the Bond Park Community Center in Cary.

The competition starts at 1 p.m. and ends around 4.

Cary takes first at Dirty Byrd Classic

Another tournament, another first-place finish for Cary wrestling.

This time the tournament was the Second Annual Dirty Byrd Classic, held at Fayetteville’s Douglas Byrd High School.

In Pool A, Cary cruised to wins over Hope Mills Gray’s Creek (78-3), East Montgomery (75-0), Fayetteville E.E. Smith (56-19) and Byrd (50-19).

After finishing first in Pool A, the Imps defeated Southern Lee — winners of Pool B — in the championship match, 42-26.

Scotland County’s Clifton Bostic (198) was named the tournament’s most outstanding wrestler.
