The Cary Academy girls’ track and field team finished fourth at the N.C. Independent Schools championships in Lewisville last weekend. The Chargers compiled 75 points. Charlotte Latin won with 137.

Senior Tyler Ford won two events and placed second in two others. She won the long jump with a mark of 18 feet and one-quarter inch.

She won the triple jump at 38-10, topping her personal best jump by more than 4 feet, the field by nearly three feet and a nine-year-old meet record by one foot.

“She came out with something to prove and she did,” said CA coach Allison McCoppin. “We were really happy. She really rose to the occasion.”

Ford was also second in the 100 and 200 meters. She ran the 100 in 12.85 seconds and the 200 in 26.33.

Rachel Park was third in the 3,200 (11:46.48) and sixth in the 1,600 (5:30.67) for Cary Academy.

Therice Morris was third in the 100 hurdles in 16.77 seconds.

The Chargers placed three in the high jump. Nicole Kofman was second (5 feet), Morris was fourth (4-10) and Madison Slate was seventh (4-8).

The Chargers also placed in three relays. Blythe Friedman, Meg Bryson, Kelley Sousa and Michelle Montpetit finished the 4x200 eighth in 2:00.65. Montpetit, Emily Cornell, Rachel Gonsalves and Warner ran the 4x400 in 4:27.59 to finish fifth. And Cornell, Gonsalves, Park and Danielle Curran ran the 4x800 in 10:07.1 to finish fifth.

“Nick Kisley had a really strong meet,” McCoppin said. “He’s been improving all year. He could have won either if he chose to do one or the other, but he was trying to get points for the team.”
