The Carolina RailHawks picked up four points in the USL First Division table after their three-games-in-five-days West Coast road trip yielded a win, a loss and a draw last week. On May 23, Carolina suffered a 1-0 loss to the Seattle Sounders at Qwest Stadium. Seattle’s Sebastien Le Toux scored the game’s only goal goal on a breakaway in the 57th minute. Two days later, Carolina traveled to Vancouver and snapped the Whitecaps’ 16-match winning streak with a 1-0 win at Swanguard Stadium.“It was just one of those games,” said Carolina coach Scott Schweitzer, “just like our first three games where we dominated but were not able to capitalize. The Whitecaps controlled most of the play but we broke them down with our tenacity and a resilient goalkeeper. We never lost sight of the game and took advantage of a great opportunity.”Carolina’s Connally Edozien scored on a breakaway in the 57th minute for the game’s only goal — and his first of the season. The RailHawks completed their trip with a 0-0 draw Sunday against the Portland Timbers at PGE Park. It was the RailHawks fifth shutout of the season, and the fifth time they failed to net a goal.Seven players earned cautions between the two teams. Carolina played most of the match with 10 men after midfielder Jonny Steele earned his second yellow card of the match in the 38th minute.Through nine matches, Carolina (3-2-4, 13 points) is in third place in the USL First Division. The RailHawks trail second-place Montreal (4-0-2, 14 points) and first-place Vancouver (5-1-2, 17 points). The RailHawks are off this week. They will return to the pitch on June 8, when they will taken on the Rochester Raging Rhinos at 7:30 p.m. in what is the first of four straight matches Carolina will play at SAS Soccer Park.
