Middle Creek loses 41-15 at Northern Durham
Northern Durham football had a 41-15 come-from-behind victory over Middle Creek at County Stadium on Friday night.

The Knights jumped to an early 8-0 lead. The Mustangs, however, seized momentum after Northern Durham fumbled on the first play after the free kick following the safety. They needed only three plays to capitalize, when Garrett Leatham found Tre Nesbit for an 18-yard touchdown strike.

Middle Creek added to its lead by closing out the half on a 13-play, 72-yard drive that culminated with a Stephen Sladek 1-yard touchdown plunge for a 15-8 halftime advantage.

But that was about all that went right for the Panthers.

Northern Durham’s defense found a way to slow down Leatham — who completed 10 straight passes at one point — in the second half, and the offense started to jell.

Andrew Peacock found his rhythm, connecting with Donovan Rasberry on a 46-yard bomb to pull the Knights to within 15-14. Rasberry then made the play of the game five minutes later, making an interception and running it back 38 yards.

Green Hope falls to Wakefield
Green Hope football came away from Friday night’s season opener with a 34-13 loss after opponent Wakefield survived seven turnovers in the nonconference games.
