Holly Springs pitcher Erica Nunn is an intimidating 5-foot-11 left-hander, but her game is more sophisticated than a simple lock-and-load fireballer. Nunn’s mind and arm churn together, playing a mental game as each victim steps into the batter’s box. Nunn has led the Golden Hawks to their first two Tri-Nine Conference titles. She clinched the second title with 13 strikeouts in Friday’s 13-0 win over Lee County. The game’s second K was the 1,000th of Nunn’s career.

High Schools: The NCHSAA will not announce the results of its members’ vote on removing non-boarding parochial schools from the association until the group’s annual meeting on May 3. Cardinal Gibbons, Charlotte Catholic and Kernersville McGuinness currently are NCHSAA schools, but would be excluded if the proposed constitutional change is made. A three-fourths majority (293 schools) is required to change the constitution.
