Susan Traversi and Dawn Farmer, teachers at Holly Springs High School and Holly Ridge Middle School, respectively, received January’s Extra Step Star Awards from the Holly Springs Business Alliance.

Sunshine Tsosie, a middle schooler at Holly Ridge Middle School, and Jennifer White, a student at Holly Springs High School, were student recipients of the award. These teachers and students took the “extra step” in career education.

Traversi actively seeks job opportunities for HSHS students and helps students complete job applications and locate resources to accomplish their goals. Farmer, an eighth-grade language-arts teacher, created a project for her students involving career investigation and oral presentations of their findings. White, already publicist for the HSHS Medical Club, also assumed the position of vice president of the club.

She recently completed the high school’s Certified Nursing Assistant Program. Sunshine is taking a class at the Imhotep Academy, a precollege program operated by the College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences at N.C. State University.
