Cary’s Spring Daze festival will be a little brighter this year thanks to some local high school students.

Art students at Cary and Panther Creek high schools have been working to create colorful signage for the arts and crafts festival, to be held at Cary’s Bond Park Saturday, April 26.

“It’s a nice break from the hard core work that we do,” said Cary High senior Rachel Takas between brush strokes. She and fellow senior Hallie Rogers worked painting lettering on some of the signs during Shirley McIver’s art class last Friday.

Katie Crain, a program assistant with the Town of Cary’s parks and recreation department, said the town hopes to use the signs for several years.

“We’re always excited to do a collaboration,” Crain said. “Since it is an arts and crafts festival we like to incorporate some local artists, just give them a chance to work with something different.”

McIver said the opportunity is also beneficial for her students.

“I feel like we need to do things like this; it’s part of the community,” McIver said.

Takas and Rogers said they were looking forward to seeing their work on display.

“I want to take my mom and be like, ‘I painted all these signs,’” Takas said.
