ATHENS DRIVE HIGH

Three students who write for the Oracle, the Athens Drive High newspaper, were selected to be in the National Edition of My High School Journalism. Articles by Blair Robinson, Caryn Siggins and Erik Tomins can be viewed at my.hsj.org/schools/newspaper.

At the annual school blood drive, 86 pints of blood were donated. Debbie Wagner, ADHS Medical Academy Chair, coordinated the event with Rex Hospital.

The Marching Band placed second in Horn Line, Percussion and Colorguard with second honors overall at the 17th Annual Clinton High School Band Day.

APEX HIGH

The class of 1979 will hold a 30-year reunion Friday to Sunday. For information, call Jean Workman Travers at 919-362-0630.

CARY ACADEMY

Cary Academy will participate in the China Student Global Leadership Institute in 2010.

During the annual book fair, Nov. 5-8, the library will receive a percentage of sales made at any Barnes & Noble nationwide. To benefit the school, turn in a book fair voucher with the book fair number 526178 when making a purchase. Ceramic teapots made by 7th- and 8th-grade visual arts students will be on display at the Cary Barnes & Noble across from Cary Towne Center. An artist's reception will be from 4 to 5 p.m. on Nov. 8.

Sixth-grade language arts instructor Meredith Stewart has had an article published in California English. The article, "Chatting About Poetry: Using Chat Rooms as a Tool for Classroom Discussion," appeared in the September 2009 issue.

CARY HIGH

Noodles and Company at 200 Crossroads Blvd. in Cary will have "Cary High Night" from 5 to 8 p.m. on Nov. 5. All of the sales will be donated to Cary High School in exchange for the opportunity to practice prior to the restaurant's official opening.

At the West Johnston Fall Marching Band Invitational on Oct. 10, the Cary High marching band was named grand champions of the 2009 Invitational, first place overall, second place drum major, first place Color Guard, second place drum line, first place marching, first place music and second place general effects. Cary High was also awarded first place overall and first place Color Guard at the Heart of Carolina Marching Band Invitational held at Wakefield High School on Oct. 3.

GRACE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL

The school will be putting on a production of "Seasick" at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday at the Crossroads campus. Tickets are $11 for adults, $9 for children, and $7 for seniors. This event is open to the public.

Open houses for prospective students will be held in October. Grades 7 to 12 will meet at the Crossroads campus at 9 a.m. every Tuesday. PENNY ROAD ELEMENTARY

The students and faculty at Penny Road Elementary will mark their 20th year of excellence in education at a celebration outside the school on Oct. 28, at 9:30 a.m. A blog has been set up at pennyroades.wcpss.net for former teachers and students to share memories. There will be tours of the school and a reception following the celebration.

The N.C. Department of Environmental and Natural Resources will visit on Saturday to learn about the environmental education activities at Penny Road. The school is looking for volunteers to help with small projects. For more information, call 919-387-2136.
