"High School Musical" star Vanessa Hudgens performed a surprise concert at Dillard Drive Middle School on Feb. 3.

Dillard sixth-grader and huge "High School Musical" fan Jessica Benson entered the Sears Back-To-School Sweepstakes online and won the grand prize - a concert by Hudgens at her school. The catch: Jessica had to keep the secret for five months.

The day of the concert, the 1,200 Dillard middle-schoolers arrived at school to find the gym locked and the windows covered. In five hours the school gymnasium was transformed into a concert hall with a huge stage.

The Dillard Middle Hospitality Committee even set up a green room for Hudgens and Jessica complete with fresh flowers and snacks.

Hudgens arrived via limo with her makeup artist and went straight to the green room. Jessica and her parents then had a private autograph session with Hudgens and the media conducted interviews.

Thirty minutes before the concert, teachers told their students there was going to be a concert and gave clues as to who it was, while never giving up the answer. Jessica spilled the beans when she introduced the star to the crowd. Hudgens performed three songs and even invited three lucky students to join her and Jessica on stage for a song from the popular "High School Musical" movie.

"Our students were at their best and many were in awe," said Dillard Principal Teresa Abron. "While schools should be a place where learning and teaching occurs daily, it should also be a place where students are offered a variety of experiences. Our students learned firsthand the value of sustained efforts to achieve excellence and the concrete rewards of hard work."

When asked what the best part of the day was, Jessica responded, "Being able to sing with Vanessa during the sound check and Vanessa telling me that I can really sing!"

She also enjoyed the time in the green room with Hudgens where she was able to give Hudgens a thank you gift.

Jessica's story has generated lots of local and national media attention including a story on E Entertainment News.
