Adams Elementary
“Muffins with Mom” for tracks 2 and 3 will take place on Jan. 20 from 7:45 to 8:30 a.m. Please bring one classroom supply item.

Cary Academy
Dr. Gardner C. Taylor of Raleigh, a civil rights pioneer who served as a mentor to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., will be the guest speaker at the MLK Day celebration on Jan. 16 at 9:45 a.m. in the theater at Cary Academy.

East Cary Middle
East Cary Year-Round Middle School will host several sessions for parents and students interested in seeking information regarding the school. All sessions will be held in the auditorium, Jan. 22 and Feb. 3 from 6-7:30 p.m.

Heartwood Montessori
• The Upper Elementary school will be going to Impact Gym on Thursdays for four weeks.
• The Parent Support Group Committee will meet on Jan.14 at 7 p.m. All parents are welcome to attend and child care will be provided. The meeting will focus on plans for the Spring Fling annual event in April.

Holly Ridge Middle
• Reflections entries from the following students won awards: Josiah Bardy, William Henderson, Austin Mathews, Celeste Rosario, Russell Kanapaux, Laura Brady, Camila Molina, Savannah Kulenic, John Kelly, Nicholas Wiltrout, Rich Foil and Brittany Crowe.
• Camila Molina’s Literature Entry, “Holding Hands,” received first place for middle school students’ literature entries in Wake County. Molina will be honored at Wake County PTA Council’s “Reflections Celebration” in February. As the first-place winner for Wake County, Molina’s entry will compete in the state Reflections competition.

Hopewell Academy
• Congratulations to Mrs. Murley’s Middle School Advisory Group for raising over $300 for “Toys for Tots.”
• The school will be closed Monday, Jan. 19, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Students will return to school on Tuesday, Jan. 20.
• First semester exams and parent conferences will be held Jan. 20-23.
• A homework information sharing Web site was recently launched. Parents can view their student’s homework assignments online daily. Parent training sessions will be upcoming.
• Junior Varsity Basketball takes on Trinity Academy of Raleigh Thursday, Jan. 15, at 4 p.m. at Bond Park.
• The Cheer Squad debuted their new uniforms at the Friday, Jan. 9, home basketball game. The 2008-2009 Hopewell Academy Cheerleaders are eighth-grader Shannon Stewart, seventh-grader Erika Verdi, fifth-graders Shelby Davis and Madison Viviano and fourth-grader Rachel Rominger.
• Open House for prospective parents is Monday, Feb. 23, at 7 p.m. RSVP by calling 607-6339 or visit hopewellacademy.org.

Olive Chapel Elementary
• Ident-A-Kid pictures will be taken on Wednesday, Jan. 14, for interested students on Tracks 1, 2 and 3.
• The PTA Board will meet on Thursday, Jan. 15, at 1 p.m. in the media center.
• The Parent/Student Book Club will meet on Tuesday, Jan. 20, at 7 p.m. in the media center. All interested fourth- and fifth-grade students and their parents are invited to attend.

Penny Road Elementary
• Jan. 13: PTA General Member meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the Media Center. All Penny Road parents and teachers are encouraged to attend.
• The deadline to sign up for the talent show is Jan. 16.
• Jan. 21: The school will host an educational program by Sean Driscoll titled “The Circus King.” The show focuses on reading, writing and character education.

Sterling Montessori
• Open House and Information Session will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15. For information call 577-0081. Southern Wake Montessori School is located at 5108 Old Powell Road in Holly Springs.
• Parent Education Evening is rescheduled for Thursday, Jan. 22, at 7 p.m. Pediatrition Dr. Kim Ramsdell will speak on the topic of “Nutrition for Families and Children.” Child care is available. Contact the office to reserve a space as soon as possible.
