Cary Academy
The Student Leadership of the Middle School has donated $303 (a dollar per Middle School student) to the American Red Cross to aid victims of the Aug. 15 earthquake in Peru. The money will provide immediate relief and long-term support through supplies.
• Rabiya Syed (‘13) attended the Junior National Young Leaders Conference (JrNYLC) in Washington, D.C., July 1-6. JrNYLC offers high-achieving middle school students from across the country the opportunity to learn about leadership by studying the leaders of the past and by focusing on social advocacy to make a positive impact in their homes and communities. During the conference, Syed visited national landmarks such as the White House, the Lincoln Memorial, and the Washington Monument, and she participated in exercises and workshops to bring leadership concepts to life.
Farmington Woods Elementary
Farmington Woods IB/PYP student population has grown, thus our faculty and staff have grown. Please help us welcome the following new staff members for the 2007-2008 school year: Kindergarten, Anita Cardona; first-grade, Nicole Mallon and Allison Parker; second-grade, Lori Bradley; fourth-grade, Laura Binnick and Scott Gaitan; sixth-grade, Kimberly Pasquarella; Title 1, Diane Michael; guidance counselor, Geanita Hodges; media specialist, Sarah Gransee; special education, Adria Matonak and Frank O’Connor; music, Michele Johnson; art, Rachel Pugeda; PE, Rachel Emery. We have three new teacher assistants, Anna Cauthen, Belinda Brown, Elizabeth Lytle and Judy Sciandra. Our new office assistant is Sharron Gibson.
• Farmington Woods Elementary will hold a PTA meeting and Open House on Thursday night, Sept. 13. A general PTA meeting will be followed by two identical half-hour sessions where classroom teachers will talk about curriculum expectations for the 2007-2008 school year.
Hopewell Academy
Sept. 5-7: Spirit Week. Hopewell students will be divided into two teams, red and black, and compete throughout the week. Students are asked to wear red and black on Friday, Sept. 7.
Sept. 10: Meet the Faculty Night, 7 p.m.

Kingswood Elementary

Morrisville Elementary
The PTA Fall Membership Drive will continue through the Fall Festival, Sept. 28. At that time, the class in each grade with the highest percentage of PTA members will win a prize!
• Congratulations to George Edwards, a fourth-grader in Ms. Cade’s class, for winning Dillard’s Back to School Trendsetter contest. George’s picture is currently on display at Cary Towne Center and he won an iPod Shuffle.
Penny Road Elementary
Sept. 6: Open House for parents, 7-8 p.m. parents will meet in their respective children’s classrooms to meet the teacher, learn about the curriculum, sign up to help in the classroom and learn more about plans for the year. Parents only, please.

Mr. Sather’s third-grade class will visit Historic Oak View Park Sept. 11. This park was once a working plantation and many acres have been preserved.
