Adams Elementary

Congratulations to our guidance counselor Ms. Young and the SAVE club for winning first place as the top SAVE chapter nationally. They were commended on their outstanding performance and lasting contributions to the school, community and students for exemplifying the ideals of Students Against Violence Everywhere.

April 13: Spring photos for tracks 1 and 2.

April 16: Story Night featuring Felix Petrie, 6 p.m.

Apex Middle

April 16: Visiting author Rick Riordan. Softball at West Lake.

April 17: Eighth-grade computer testing. Track meet at West Cary. Gang Awareness presentation by Apex police, 7 p.m. in the auditorium.

April 18: Anacondas and Funky Monkey teams to the planetarium. Eighth-grade computer testing. Soccer hosts Fuquay-Varina.

April 19: Softball hosts Reedy Creek.

April 20: Eighth-grade computer testing. Seventh-grade AVID to Campbell University.

Cary Academy

The Middle School held its annual International Festival March 30. At the end of the day, an African drum-and-dance ensemble performed in the theater.

• The seventh and eighth grades held an art exhibit April 5 in the theater. Some of the projects were inspired by items from the “global scrap heap.”

• Emilie Chen (’11) was selected as the first chair clarinet in the All-State Band at the auditions held March 3.

• The Middle School Band earned a superior rating – the highest – at the Middle School Band Festival in Chapel Hill on March 28.

Davis Drive Elementary

April 12: PTA meeting, 6 to 7 p.m. in the media center.

Summer art camps at DDE will be taught by Debra Houck. June 25-29 for rising first- through third-graders, 12:20 to 4:30 p.m. July 23-27 for rising fourth- through sixth-graders, 12:20 to 4:30 p.m. Information: dhouck@wcpss.net.

Davis Drive Middle

Davis Drive Middle will host an open house for rising sixth-graders to introduce them to middle school. Identical sessions will be offered April 12 at 7 p.m. and April 19 at 7 p.m. In order to accommodate everyone, students and parents from Green Hope, Cary and Weatherstone elementary schools are asked to attend the April 19 open house. Parents and students from Davis Drive Elementary are asked to attend on April 12. However, if you have a conflict you may attend either session.

Holly Springs Elementary

April 23-27: Book Fair. Turn off your TV and go hunting for the Readasaurus in you! This year’s Bedford Falls Book Fair comes rumbling to town starting April 23 in our media center. The book fair will give you and your children the opportunity to purchase quality books and educational products, including newly release works, children’s classics and current bestsellers at affordable prices. The proceeds will benefit the school’s media center.

The book fair will be open Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to noon. Please join us Thursday, April 26, from 5 to 8 p.m. for Family Night. Not only will you be able to shop for great books, you will also be entertained by Mark Daniel, magical storyteller, as he shares the Tales of Readasaurus with the audience.

• In conjunction with National TV Turnoff Week, our school is having a read-a-thon to benefit the school. Information and pledge forms have been sent home. If your child wishes to participate, have them obtain sponsors (family, friends and neighbors) who will pledge money for every 15 minutes of reading done through April 15.

Lufkin Road Middle

Lufkin sponsored Arts Galleria Night March 13 where students showcased individual talent, including artwork, vocal and instrumental selections. Family and Consumer Science students provided finger foods. Art teacher Jayna Huffines, chorus teacher Bert Fox, band teacher Leigh Anne Simmons and FACS teacher Jenny Dean were excited about their students’ talents and thrilled at the huge turnout.

Penny Road Elementary

April 12: Kindergarten Orientation, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

April 17: General PTA meeting, 6:30 p.m. in the media center. New PTA officers will be elected. There is still time to get involved. Come find out which positions might be perfect for you.

April 27: Spring Carnival.

Raleigh School

Both third-grade classes will take an overnight field trip to Camp Don Lee the third week in April. Students will participate in seven educational programs all of which tie into their study of wetlands.

• As part of their study of animals, both first-grade classes will take a field trip to the N.C. Zoo on Monday, April 30.

Turner Creek Elementary

Teacher Appreciation Week is April 9-13 for track 3, April 16-20 for tracks 1 and 2 and April 23-27 for track 4.

• Field Days are coming! Volunteers please sign up to come and help out. Field Day for tracks 1 and 3 is April 11 and April 24 for tracks 2 and 4. A volunteer luncheon hosted by TCE staff will be between the morning field day classes and afternoon classes.

• Remember the school beautification project is April 28 from 9 a.m. to noon. Please join the volunteers in making our grounds beautiful!

• The TCE cafeteria has received another health sanitation score of 102! That’s four in a row.
