APEX HIGH SCHOOL The Wake County Public School System will offer two classes at Apex High School through its Lifelong Learning Program.
"Construction Talk" will meet from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sept. 15 through Oct. 8, at a cost of $125.
"Workplace Communication Skills" will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Sept. 29 through Oct. 27, for $59. For information, call 919-850-1807 or e-mail

ATHENS DRIVE HIGH SCHOOL The ADHS Wind Ensemble was recently selected as one of 14 bands nationwide to perform for the National Concert Band Festival in Indianapolis in March. This will be the first time the Wind Ensemble will take the national stage. Last year, the group's percussion ensemble was the first Wake County ensemble to perform in the 20-year history of the festival and only the third group from the state.
ADHS seniors Matt Carter and Ryan Prevost served as delegates for the 70th session of the American Legion Tar Heel Boys' State at Catawba College. They were chosen for leadership, character, scholarship, loyalty and service to their school.
They were sponsored by American Legion Post 530 in Raleigh. About 200 delegates from the state participated in intense workshops concentrating on state government and politics.
CARY HIGH SCHOOL The Cary High School Orchestra is in need of violins, violas, cellos and other stringed instruments. If you have a used instrument in your closet, basement or attic, the school asks that you consider donating it. If interested, please contact Marta Partridge at

The 30th anniversary reunion for the class of 1979 is scheduled for homecoming weekend, Oct. 9 and 10.

HEARTWOOD MONTESSORI Heartwood will hold an open house from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. The event will include a segment during which Heartwood parents can promote businesses, products and services to the community. Both events are open to the public.
Heartwood Montessori is accepting applications for the preschool and elementary programs for the current year.

HOLLY SPRINGS HIGH Holly Springs High School will hold Meet the Teacher Night for parents and students from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Parents will have the opportunity to follow their student's course schedule and teachers will provide classroom information during a short presentation. The evening will begin in the auditorium where instructions on how to proceed to the classrooms will be provided.
PENNY ROAD ELEMENTARY The first Penny Road PTA meeting will be at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in the media center. The fourth-grade teachers will cover "Writing Prompts." Penny Road parents are encouraged and welcome.
Feed the Bin Recycling Program will take place on Thursday, Sept. 17. Feed the Bin is a school recycling program sponsored by Wake County Environmental Services through a partnership with the Wake County Public School System.
SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS ASSOCIATION OF WAKE COUNTY There will be a general meeting from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Cameron Village Library in Raleigh. All substitute teachers in Wake County are invited. Annual dues are $10. For information, call 919-510-8149.
