APEX HIGH SCHOOL The Wake County Public School System will offer two classes at Apex High School through its Lifelong Learning program. "Construction Talk" will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sept. 15 through Oct. 8, from 7 to 9 p.m. for $125. ATHENS DRIVE HIGH The Wake County Public School System will offer seven courses at Athens Drive High School through its Lifelong Learning program. "Junior Carolina Shag I" will meet Tuesdays, Sept. 1 through Oct. 20, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. for $95. "Science Experiments with Interdisciplinary Approach," will meet on Thursdays, Sept. 10 through Oct. 1, 7 to 9:30 p.m. for $100. "Excel Introduction for Teachers" will meet on Mondays, Sept. 14 through Oct. 12, from 6:45 to 9:15 p.m. for $85. "When Less is More" will be on Wednesday, Sept. 16, from 6:30 to 9 p.m. for $38. "Computer Animation with Adobe Flash" meets Tuesdays, Sept. 29 through Nov. 3, 6:30 to 9 p.m. for $129. For grades 4-12, there will be two music classes, 6:30 to 8 p.m., for $117.50. CARY ACADEMY On Aug. 20, a group of about 30 N.C. Business Committee for Education board members visited the middle school. Under science teacher Joselyn Todd's guidance, the board members took part in a one-to-one immersion lesson in which they acted as students and a group of eighth-graders assisted as student-teachers. Afterward, Todd and instructional technology director Sam Morris facilitated a lesson in a one-to-one computing environment on the civil rights movement. Head of school Don Berger then gave the members a tour of the campus.
Four Cary Academy honors orchestra students have been selected for the N.C. Honors Orchestra. The students are Leah Bar-On Simmons (2012), 1st violin section; Jeffie Chang (2010), viola section; Jacob Warwick (2012), viola section; and Michelle Wang (2010), cello section. The four will join the orchestra at the N.C. School of the Arts in Winston-Salem during the NCMEA conference weekend (Nov. 7 to 10) and will perform in a concert Nov. 8 at the Steven Center in Winston-Salem.
CARY HIGH The 30th reunion for the Cary High School Class of 1979 is scheduled for homecoming weekend, Oct. 9 and 10. Information about the events planned can be found at

GREEN HOPE HIGH Green Hope High School students Scott Bader and Jeffrey Warren organized a back-to-school supply drive. They began collecting school supplies for K-12 students on Aug. 7. On Aug. 21 they delivered the supplies to the Helping Hand Mission on Rock Quarry Road in Raleigh.
HEARTWOOD MONTESSORI On Thursday, from 7 to 8 p.m., the kindergarten/elementary class will have a parent information session.

LUFKIN ROAD MIDDLE For the past four years, Lufkin Road student Lauren Stogner and her sister Holly, who attends Laurel Park Elementary, have held a yard sale with all proceeds going to the SPCA of Wake County. This year their sale will be on Saturday at 302 Giverny Place in Cary.
