Athens Drive High School
• Athens Drive is proud to announce that ADHS students won three of 388 spots from over 1,440 statewide applicants to participate in research this summer in Summer Ventures in Science and Mathematics. Congratulations to Guneet Chawla and PianPian Ye, who will study at ASU. Rani Patel will study at UNC-Charlotte.
• Congratulations to ADHS Drafting teacher Nolan Fahrer and his students Stephen Page, Ryan O’Keefe, Matthew Reeves, Nicolaus Jordan, Zack Bennett, Jay Hughey, Rich Palka, Ethan Johnson and Jessica Wirsing for being named Certified Solidworks Associates. They are industry certified and can proficiently navigate and use Solidworks Constraint-based software. They are the only Certified Solidworks associates listed in Raleigh. • ADHS student Marie Neal is in need of a liver transplant. The Athens Drive family is working hard to raise money for Children’s Organ Transplant Association to assist Marie financially. Over $1,700 was donated by staff, students and parents recently. Another $4,600 was raised at Grad Man and through a Chick-Fil-A-sponsored night. All proceeds from the Student Faculty Game on May 27 will be donated to COTA in Marie’s name.

Cary Academy
• The Middle School Chorus put on several outstanding performances at the “Music in the Parks” choral competition on May 16 in Fredericksburg, Va. The sixth grade chorus scored first place in its division and also scored a superior rating of 91.5 in performance. The sixth through eighth grade boys scored first place in their division and also scored a superior rating of 93.5 in performance. The seventh through eighth grade mixed chorus scored first place in its division and also scored a superior rating of 95 in performance. The seventh through eighth grade mixed chorus was also awarded the Grand Champion of Middle School Choral groups for scoring the highest collective performance average.
• Seventy-nine Cary Academy seventh-graders qualified, based on ERB results, to take the SAT or ACT through the Duke Talent Identification Program. Thirty-six of those students took advantage of this opportunity. Twenty of the students who took the ACT or SAT scored well enough to receive state or grand recognition.
• The entire cast of the school play “Les Miserables” performed the epilogue and finale at the 2009 Capital Awards on Monday, May 18. In addition, Hillary Aarons (’11), Joe Johnston (’09), Katie Lipscomb (’11), Jane Goehrke (’10) and Alex Morgan (’11) performed with selected students from all participating schools. Seth Johnson (’09) performed as a nominee for Best Actor.

Grace Christian
The baseball team recently celebrated their first tournament win in school history. The team went on to place third for the season.

Hopewell Academy
• Congratulations to April’s Students of the Month: ninth grader Anna Wilding, daughter of Mark and Lori Wilding of Cary; sixth grader Morgan Rathbone, son of Malinda Rathbone of Cary and fifth grader Alexis Brunson, daughter of Chris and Jamilah Brunson of Morrisville.
• “Masterpieces Past, Present, for the Future Art Show and Sale,” benefiting the David R. Collins Fund for Creative Arts, will be Thursday, May 28, at 7 p.m. The suggested donation is $25. Faculty, parents, friends of Hopewell and guests are invited to attend. RSVP to odom@hopewellacademy.org.

Middle Creek High School
Middle Creek High School Class of 2009 and their guests are invited to a Baccalaureate service on Sunday, May 31, at 3 p.m., at Colonial Baptist Church, 6051 Tryon Road in Cary. Contact Sarah Cobb at 557-0638 or Peg Turner at 233-8263 for more information.

Congratulations to Colleen Kanters for being one of the 12 finalists for 2009 Wake County Teacher of the Year. Kanters teaches physical education.
