Robert Murphy (’09) received a Ventures Internship Program at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. The V.I.P. is a paid internship offered to five freshmen at the college in Terre Haute, Ind.
On March 30-31, the Class of 2011 sponsored “Cupcakes for Kids’ Food.” Kids Feeding Kids benefits children in the Triangle who receive free lunch programs, but not when school is out of session.Cary High

Congratulations to the elementary students who participated in the ACSI Art Festival held this month at North Raleigh Christian Academy. The Varsity Winter Guard, Junior Varsity Winter Guard and Winter Drumline competed in the Atlantic Indoor Association Championships on March 28 in northern Virginia. Congratulations to the Varsity Winter Guard, who received first place and the gold medal in their class and to the Winter Drumline, who received third place and the bronze medal in their class.Heartwood Montessori
The third grade students collected 233 pounds of food, which equals 195 meals, for the Food Bank of Raleigh.

Tommy Waalkes, a senior, was awarded the National Latin Exam’s silver medal and maxima cum laude certificate from a pool of 149,000 Latin students from 50 states. This was Waalkes third year to the take the exam, with the first two years resulting in gold medals. Waalkes is the son of Mike and Michele Waalkes of Raleigh.
Steve Messiter, Hopewell Academy’s math teacher and department chair, has been approached by Scholastic Books to publish a set of his original math activities in a workbook. Messiter will also be presenting his math activities at the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics State Math Conference in Greensboro this October.Panther Creek High
The Fine Arts Department will present the Tony Award-winning Broadway show “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” on April 16, 17 and 18 in the Panther Creek auditorium, located at 6770 McCrimmon Parkway in Cary. Anthony Kocur, a sixth grader, was the third place winner in Division 1 of the Maryknoll Magazine’s Essay Contest. Youngsters submitted essays 500 to 750 words long on the topic, “You Will Be My Witnesses.” Congratulations, Anthony!
