Cartoon lacked tasteThe cartoon that ran on Oct. 21 ["Other Voices"] is completely distasteful and uncalled for.
As a parent of a school aged child, I completely support and am in favor of keeping children in the schools closer to their homes, instead of having to bus them around the county.
I don't see how you can publish a cartoon that is comparing this stance to that of segregation.
You are trying to bring race into this matter when it is completely uncalled for.
Alan JonesHolly Springs Sculpting exposureI would like to compliment you on the excellent, informative article about the art and artists involved in the current sculpture exhibit on the Town Hall campus and offer my sincerest thanks to you for this attention. It is our goal to position this yearly exhibit among the elite in the country. Doing so requires the awareness and support of the entire community along with offering the artists much sought after exposure. Your article helps our cause tremendously and we appreciate all the help we can get.

Two great uses for tax money!
Tracy DalrympleCary Reining in spellingRegarding "Veridea wants free reign," Oct. 21:
I know that no one in the understaffed newspaper business has much time to look at anything that passes a spell-checker. But I can't help correcting a common error.
The expression is "free rein," as in holding a horse's reins slack and letting it go where it pleases. "Reign" refers to the period during which a sovereign rules. Queen Elizabeth has reigned for over 50 years. I suppose that in Her Majesty's younger days she might have reined a horse, but probably never gave it free rein.
Actually, considering how much autonomy the developers are demanding, "free reign" isn't all that bad a description!
