Dr. Alfred Marion Johnson, Jr., 67, died Oct. 6 at Rex Rehab and Nursing Care Center of Apex after a short illness. He was born in Fuquay-Varina on June 16, 1942 to Alfred Marion Johnson Sr. and Carroll Howard Johnson. Al graduated in 1964 from Wake Forest University with a degree in business. In 1970, he graduated from Southeastern Seminary with a Master of Divinity degree. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1978 with a PhD in religion and anthropology. He was a translator of numerous theological texts from German and French to English. He enjoyed many hobbies, especially ham radio.He is survived by his wife Tullie Hoyle Johnson, son Jeffrey Hoyle Johnson of Boston, MA, brother William C. Johnson and his wife Sara Ann of Suffolk, VA, and nephews Capt. William T. Johnson and E. Nathaniel Johnson, both of Suffolk, VA.The family will receive friends beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10 at Westwood Baptist Church with a funeral service following at 2:30 p.m. A graveside service will be held 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 11 at Cherryville City Memorial Cemetery in Cherryville.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Westwood Baptist Church Building Fund, 200 Westhigh Street, Cary, NC 27513.Condolences may be sent through www.brownwynne.com.
