Vivian Ilene Carter, 69, of 7104 Camp Branch Lane, Apex, died at home Wednesday Sept. 23 following a lengthy battle with cancer.

Carter enjoyed bird watching and loved taking care of children, but her passion was her grandchildren. She was born in Washington County, Pennsylvania to the late Timothy and Margaret Roche Johnson.

A memorial service celebrating her life and home going will be held on Monday Sept. 28 at 11 a.m. in the Apex Funeral Home Chapel, 550 W. Williams St. in Apex. Her family will receive friends for one hour prior to the memorial, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Surviving are her husband of 49 years, Thomas A. Carter; a son, Brian B. Carter; two daughters: Jennifer C. Credle & her husband A. Berry, and Jocelyn Pease and her husband Kevin, all of Apex. Also surviving are: five precious grandchildren; Grant, Benjamin and Anna Credle, and Andrew and Lillian Pease, as well as one brother, John Johnson of Washington, PA.
