Area Halloween eventsCary Safe & Sane Halloween Celebration will be held at Cary Towne Center from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, with trick or treating and a costume contest at the mall.
The event features "not so scary" stories and magic by Michael Creech. To be considered for the costume contest finals, you should be trick or treating at the mall beginning at 6 p.m. There will also be pumpkin-weight and candy-guessing contests. Koka Booth Amphitheatre is showing classic horror films at Reel-ly Scary Cary: Movies by Moonlight nightly at 7 p.m. through Friday. The cost is $3. Kids under 12 are free.
The series features frightening movie classics on a large outdoor screen. Features are "Night of the Living Dead" in 3D today, "Casper" on Thursday, and a double-feature on Friday with "Frankenstein" and "Dracula." Gates open at 6 p.m. For information, visit

Holly Springs This year's HollyFest takes place between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday at Womble Park, rain or shine.
The town of Holly Springs joins with churches, civic organizations and businesses for this annual community celebration. Admission is free.
The event features the HollyFest 5K Run, which starts at 9 a.m.

The Corn Maze at Hector's Creek Farm on Old Mill Road in Fuquay-Varina is open 4 to 9 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday.
The cost is $10 per person for ages 4 and older and includes admittance to the maze, a hay ride, and two tickets for the fall attractions, which include a corn cannon, pedal carts, a barrel train and "U-stuff a Scarecrow."
