The suspects in Silliman's murder were also linked virtually. All were listed as Silliman’s friends on the popular social networking site Facebook. So just who are these teenagers, and what, if anything, might have led them to allegedly commit such a heinous act? For insight, we turned to the Web.

Following are snapshots of recent activity from the suspects’ respective Facebook pages as well as other online sources.

Ryan Hare
Age: 18

Hometown: Apex

School: former student at Panther Creek High in Cary

Quick facts: Hare was charged in March with having paintball guns on school property. Apex police also searched Hare’s home, where they seized ammunition and a firearm similar to an AK-47. Hare had allegedly said he planned to blow up the school, but was never charged with making such threats.

Online activity: Hare has pages on the social networking sites Facebook and MySpace; both are listed as private.

On MySpace.com: “I can imagine a world of love, peace, and no wars. Then I imagine myself attacking that place because they would never expect it.”

Allegra Dahlquist
Age: 17

Hometown: Cary

School: Apex High

Nickname: Legra

Quick facts: Dahlquist’s family once lived in the mobile home in the New Hill community where Matthew Silliman’s body was found. The family had been using the home for storage.

Online activity: Dahlquist is a patron of several animal-related Web sites. She also maintained pages on both MySpace and Facebook; both pages have been removed.

• On HoofandPawPet Sitting.com: “I love animals! ... Currently we have 2 dogs, 4 cats and 3 horses. I started riding horses when I was 5. ... Hopefully one day I will be an Olympic rider.”

Drew Shaw
Age: 16

Hometown: Apex

School: Panther Creek High in Cary

Online activity: The background image on Shaw’s MySpace page shows a silhouette of a male character holding a bong, surrounded by marijuana plants. The image also contains the word “juggalo,” a term Shaw uses on the site to refer to himself. According to UrbanDictionary.com, the term can refer to either “confused individuals that are a product of the breakdown of the white middle class/lower class family, hero worship and the emasculatory expectations of society” or individuals who share the ideology of the popular ’80s band Insane Clown Posse.

On MySpace.com: Shaw’s page contains a link to an online game called “Gang Wars.” Several of Shaw’s friends posted comments after his arrest. Most were too explicit to print.”

Aadil Khan
Age: 17

Hometown: Apex

School: Apex High

Online activity: Khan has pages on both Facebook and MySpace. His Facebook site is only accessible to friends. He had recently posted a video on YouTube in which he and several other teens are shown role playing different ways to kill the historical figure Pythagoras, a sixth-century B.C. philosopher and mathematician.

On MySpace.com: Khan references his interest in such literature as Adolf Hitler’s “Mein Kampf” and “Swastika” by author Michael Blade.

Excerpts from MySpace page: “I believe in justice … but my own kind … i dont’t believe in any one person or many persons ruling over me …”
