Shouts of children’s laughter could be heard from behind the Islamic Association of Cary Saturday as the organization held its second annual Eid celebration.Eid is a festive holiday held to mark the end of Ramadan, the month in which Muslims traditionally fast from dawn until dusk.Craft vendors, food and lots of rides for kids marked the Eid festivities held at the Association’s Chatham Street location.“This is a time to rejoice, be together and just have fun,” said Shakil Ahmed, president of the Association.Part of that rejoicing meant train rides and other carnival rides for the kids.Mehar Abbas of Apex was at the event with her three kids — Ammaar, 8, Khadeeja, 5, and Amina, 1. Khadeeja said that she had enjoyed the pony ride last year.Ahmed said events like the Eid festival are especially important for the Association’s American-born children to learn Islamic traditions.
“Otherwise out of sight, out of mind,” he said.
