• An employee of Stein Mart in the Crossroads shopping center reported to police earlier this month that someone had cashed a fraudulent check for $110.99 at the store about 7 p.m. Dec. 18.

• Cary police are investigating a burglary in which someone stole a laptop computer, an electric guitar and an XBox 360 game system from a home on Carostone Court. The crime occurred April 14 between 8:25 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

• Police in Cary are investigating an attempted armed robbery that occurred April 18 about 2:30 a.m. The 54-year-old victim said he left home about 2 a.m. to go for a walk along Harrision Avenue. As he approached the intersection of Harrison Avenue and Dynasty Road, two men jumped out of a car and demanded money from him. When the victim said he didn’t have any money, his attackers pushed him and began punching and kicking him. The suspects fled, and the victim returned home to go back to bed. Upon waking up, the victim’s wife noticed his injuries and took him to the hospital.

• A manager at Master Cuts in the Cary Towne Center mall reported to police that someone, likely an employee, embezzled $90 from the store between 3 p.m. April 17 and 8:45 p.m. April 18. The manager said a cash drawer had come up short.

• A Florida woman staying at the Best Western hotel on Walnut Street reported the theft of a $600 flat screen television from her 2004 maroon Mercury Marquis sometime between 7:30 p.m. April 18 and 9:10 a.m. April 19. A window in the car had been shattered with a brick.

• Cary police are investigating the theft of a man’s wedding band from his office at Martin Architectural on East Chatham Street between 2:30 p.m. April 10 and 8 a.m. April 13. The victim said he took off his ring in order to put lotion on his hands, then went home for the weekend. When he returned to the office, the ring was gone.

• Six interior doors valued at a total of $368 were stolen from two townhomes under construction on Yellowfield Lane. The theft occurred sometime between 8 a.m. April 11 and 8:07 a.m. April 12.

• A Cary woman reported to police on April 16 that someone had used her Sears credit card in September 2007 to make about $1,000 in purchases.
