CARY — Police are searching for two men they say are behind a wave of car break-ins earlier this week in the Hearthstone subdivision in northern Cary.

Captain Don Hamilton of the Cary police department said the two men, both white males, looted more than 30 cars in the neighborhood on Sunday and Monday.

All the cars were unlocked.

Among the items taken were GPS units, portable electronics, cigarettes, cologne and more than $100 in loose change, he added.

Some of the property was recovered as the suspects fled the scene and has been returned to its owners.

"It's a good reminder that people need to not only lock their cars but they also need not leave expensive items in their cars," he said.
