MORRISVILLE - Two Wake County school bus drivers have been charged for their roles in a rear-end collision last week that sent one child to the hospital.
It happened about 1:45 p.m. on Sept. 16. The driver of one of the buses hit the back of a Honda that had stopped to turn into a driveway on Chapel Hill Road near Cary Parkway, according to police. The second bus then hit the back of the first bus.
Both buses were carrying children. More than a half-dozen children and all three drivers were examined by ambulance personnel. But only one person, an eighth-grader, was taken to the hospital, with what police called minor injuries. Both the driver and passenger of the Honda complained of injury but refused to be transported by ambulance to the hospital, police said.
Neither bus was speeding in the 45-mile-per-hour zone, police Capt. Felecia Sykes said. But both drivers, who police did not identify, were charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. Police said they can choose to pay fines or contest their tickets in court.
