CARY — The battle for Cary's biggest district appears headed into overtime.

On Monday, the Wake County Board of Elections said that a total of 11 provisional votes cast in the District A race weren't enough to lift Republican incumbent Jennifer Robinson to a win over Democratic challenger Lori Bush.

Robinson received four of the votes, too few to achieve the 50 percent-plus level needed to avoid a Nov. 3 runoff. Bush received seven provisional votes.

In the Oct. 6 election, Robinson secured 49.97 percent of the vote in Wake and Chatham counties. Bush had 42.3 percent. The remaining votes went to Cindy Sinkez and Terry Thorne, who are now out of the race.

"I'm excited; I'm thrilled," Bush said after Monday's count. "I'm privileged to have the vote of so many people."

Robinson, meanwhile, said she would work to "dispel the myths and lies" she claims have been leveled against her by Bush supporters.
