Hopefully the sun will come out and play with everyone else this Saturday for Spring Daze 2009, where over 200 local artists and entertainers will gather at Cary’s annual celebration held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Bond Park.

For the 16th year, Cary has quite a day planned for art lovers, environmentalists and families just looking for some wholesome fun — and there are new experiences in store to keep things fresh for our veteran Spring Dazers.

Storyteller Stage For the first time, a stage will be dedicated to five storytellers. Join them from 10 a.m. through the afternoon as they take turns transporting you and your little ones to different worlds.

Cary Performs This is the second year for this event, but you can expect new local performing groups to wow you. This year: Applause! Youth Theatre, Cary Players, Cary Children’s Concert Choir, Concert Singers of Cary, Filipino Association Dancers, Philharmonic Association, Triangle Wind Ensemble and Triangle Brass Band. Look for them on the Sertoma Amphitheatre stage from 9:30 a.m.-2 p.m.

Jaycees Photo Contest This group teamed up with Spring Daze to present the festival’s first amateur photography contest. Look for entries at the Bond Park Boat House and see the winners at 1:15 p.m. on the Earth Day Stage.

WakeMed Pavilion Come learn from the professionals how to achieve a healthy lifestyle. There will be booths, demonstrations, activities and information on local health and fitness resources.

Art installation The students of Professor Dana Raymond at N.C. State will present “Discovery,” a group of innovative installations that puts ordinary structures in unusual places to encourage a re-examination of your surroundings, past and future.
