When Margo Bills and her family arrived in Apex from upstate New York 13 years ago, she “fell in love” with the small-town friendliness of her new home.

Now she wants to see it “continue to do well” by carefully planning for continued growth in residential and business development.

That’s why the president of a small business and individual tax consulting firm and mother of two is running for a seat on the Town Council.

Although she’s new to the business of politics, she’s an experienced hand at community involvement. As a member of the Apex Rotary Club and Chamber of Commerce, she’s “service friendly” and “business friendly,” said the candidate.

Her chamber experience includes service on the Board of Directors and Government Affairs Committee and as a chamber ambassador. She also serves as Apex Rotary Club treasurer, treasurer of the Apex High School AOIT Parent Team and director of Friends of Guatemala, a non- profit group supporting schools for homeless children in Guatemala City.

She also is a member of various Charleston Village neighborhood committees and Hope Chapel where she served as chair of the church stewardship committee.

How will she put all that experience to work on the Town Council?

“I don’t have a big agenda,” the candidate readily admits. “I am committed, however, to make sure our continuing growth is supported by adequate transportation and completion of the New Hills sewer plant.

“In addition to new residents,” she said, “I believe it’s important to attract more business to keep our taxes as low as possible. After that, I want to listen to the 34,000 residents of our community and do what’s best for them.”

Married to her high school sweetheart for nearly 29 years, Bills and her husband Cliff are parents of a daughter, Jill, who lives in Louisville, Ky., and a son Andrew, a senior at Apex High School.
