APEX — Mike Jones, who is seeking re-election to the seat he has held for almost two decades, is focusing on growth.

The subject is bound to take center stage as the town considers the proposed Veridia project, which could more than double the town’s tax base. The 1,000-acre project, if completed, would could result in significant changes to Apex’s current planning models.

The town also will grapple with addressing the impact that Apex and other nearby towns will have on each other.“Not only are we trying to manage and deal with growth in Apex,” he said. “But we also have to address growth all around us as we plan.”

Jones has supported a regional approach to meeting infrastructure needs. Apex is a partner with Cary, Morrisville and Wake County in planning for the Western Wake Regional Wastewater Management Facilities.

At the same time, Jones wants to make sure his hometown doesn’t lose its flavor. “I want people to know when they’re in Apex, rather than just in Wake County somewhere,” he said.
