Reported multiple marriages have Cary police continuing an investigation.

Cary police learned Monday that Keron Wilkins of Clayton was believed to be married to two women simultaneously, Shannetta Dawn Stone of 136 Chatham Woods Drive in Cary and Chaka Miles Wilkins of Clayton.

Cary police obtained an arrest warrant Monday on a bigamy charge and took Wilkins into custody in Johnston County about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, said Cary police Capt. Michael Williams.

Keron Wilkins has been married to Chaka Wilkins since 2000 and to Stone since March.

According to the News & Observer and other news organizations, a third woman, Jenean Baker of Atlanta, has come forward and said that she is also married to Wilkins.

The News & Observer reported that Baker said she and Keron Wilkins were married in November 2005.

Williams said in his 16 years of law enforcement, all of which he has served in Cary, he can not recall a similar case. Williams said the investigation may not end with Baker’s allegations.

“There’s a possibility there are more women involved,” Williams said. “We’re researching that to determine if there is more.”

Regarding the possibility of additional charges related to Baker’s accusations, Williams said the department would consult with the District Attorney’s office.

It would have to be determined if the marriage between Wilkins and Baker was valid and if the Cary police or another agency would have jurisdiction to pursue charges, Williams said.

Keron Wilkins is being held in the Wake County jail on a $3,000 bond.
