Cary Town Manager Bill Coleman is staying put.
The Cary News learned Thursday from the Mooresville Tribune that Coleman was a finalist for the town manager’s position in Mooresville. According to the U.S. Census, the Iredell County town, about 28 miles north of Charlotte, has about 27,000 people.
Coleman made it clear that he is not interested in the position.
“I am not a candidate for that job,” Coleman said. “I talked to them about it but I am not pursuing that job.”
Coleman said that he was approached about the job by The Mercer Group, which is handling a search for the Mooresville manager’s position, but that he initially said no.
He was contacted again and agreed to meet with Mooresville officials.
Mooresville Mayor Bill Thunberg said he could not “confirm or deny anybody is a candidate for town manager.”
Thunberg said that the selection of the town manager was a personnel matter that was discussed in closed session.
When told of Coleman’s remarks, Thunberg said, “If that is what he says, that is what I would believe.”
