APEX — The state’s biggest employer is preparing to hire 425 workers in Apex. Wal-Mart has set up a hiring center for the Apex store, which is expected to open in the fall at 3151 Apex Peakway.

The hiring center is at 1001 Airport Blvd. Suite 320, Morrisville. It’s accepting applications 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday to Friday. Interested persons also can apply online. Most new employees will start in September to help get the store ready to open.

The store needs full-time employees, including supervisors.

With the state’s unemployment rate at 11 percent, one of the highest in the nation, expect Wal-Mart to receive plenty of applications.

Wal-Mart also is opening a new store in Garner, near N.C. 42 and Interstate 40 this month.

As of July, Wal-Mart employed nearly 55,000 people across North Carolina.

Meanwhile, Time Warner Cable is also on a hiring binge, looking to fill 50 openings in the Triangle, said Carol Hevey, the company’s executive vice-president for the Carolina region.

Hevey put out the call for applicants last week at a ceremony to officially open Time Warner’s new regional headquarters in Morrisville. The company has hired 150 in the past three months, Hevey said, and now employs more than 1,500 in the Triangle area.

Time Warner, which provides cable television, high-speed Internet and digital phone service to 800,000 customers in the eastern half of the state, is hiring to maintain staffing levels and to improve customer service.

The company is looking for technicians, sales reps and customer service reps. The jobs will pay about $30,000 a year on average.

Applicants should go to www.timewarnercable.com for more information.
