DeRusso earns Eagle ScoutJoey DeRusso IV attained the rank of Eagle Scout.
He has been in scouting since 1999, when he joined Pack 218 of St. Michael Church in Cary. After earning the Arrow of Light in late 2001, Joey bridged to Boy Scout Troop 212 in February 2002.
On his trail to Eagle, Joey served the troop in many positions, including patrol leader, assistant senior patrol leader, troop historian, troop guide and troop trainer.
He participated in six years of summer mountain camps, two as senior patrol leader.
He has earned 40 merit badges and is a member of the Order of the Arrow.
He has been awarded the two Catholic religious awards: Parvuli Dei as a Cub Scout and Ad Altare Dei as a Boy Scout.
For his Eagle project, Joey led a group of Scouts who assembled and installed a Stations of the Cross exhibit along a path near St. Michael Church.
The plaques for the stations are mementos of Monsignor Tim O'Connor's trip to Rome, and were blessed by the Pope.
Joey continued service to the Troop after reaching the Eagle rank as a Junior Assistant Scoutmaster, and earned two Eagle Palms.
Now that Joey is 18, he has joined the adult leader ranks as an assistant scout master. He plans to continue with the troop as studies permit while attending UNC-Chapel Hill.
