Jasper, a puppy who uses a wheel chair to get around, has finally found a home, according the N.C. Schnauzer Rescue.
Karla Scales, who recently lost her Labrador, adopted the 6-month old schnauzer Saturday during SchnOctoberfest, an event sponsored by the Holly Springs group.
N.C. Schnauzer Rescue, founded five years ago, has been trying to find a home for Jasper since July.
He was born to schnauzer breeders in a harrowing three-hour delivery that involved humans pulling him out of his mother. He came out not breathing. The breeders performed CPR to jump-start his first gasps. And his hind legs didn't work.
The breeders decided to surrender him to the rescue group when they realized the extent of his disability.
Since then, the group has raised money for a special wheelchair for Jasper. Media coverage led to a flood of applications and donations.
Scales was approved after a lengthy application process, including reference checks and a weekend sleepover.
And Jasper gets along with Scales' other Schnauzer, Glory, which was an important factor in Scales' adoption process.
"They were happily playing within five minutes of meeting," Scales said.
