The Apex Arts Council will celebrate nature with its Art Along the Trail event Saturday, June 7.

Artists’ booths will be set up along a small stretch of the American Tobacco Trail from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. near the White Oak Church trailhead at 1305 White Oak Church Road in Apex.

“It’s just a unique venue, something that I don’t know anyone has done before,” said Bob Crowley, vice president of the Apex Arts Council. “I have this image in my mind of someone leaning down from a horse to buy a piece of artwork.” Local artist Karin Baumeister-Rehm said she is excited about the event.

Baumeister-Rehm’s own art is rooted deeply in nature. She is the creator of Nesting for Peace, a project in which birdhouses are painted and then partially shredded paper containing messages of peace are inserted as nesting.

“We really are thrilled. It’s a great opportunity to connect nature with art,” Baumeister-Rehm said. “Sometimes you see somebody with hiking boots and you don’t picture them in a gallery.”
