A local historian’s book featuring a pictorial history of Morrisville will hit the shelves March 3.
Historian Ernest Dollar has created a Morrisville edition for Arcadia Publishing’s “Images of America” series. The series uses old photographs and short summaries to showcase the personal history of an area.
Dollar’s 127-page book follows the town’s history from its beginnings as a railroad hub in the 1800s to the last decade’s boom that has quadrupled Morrisville’s population.
The population boom partly fueled Dollar’s interest in writing the book. Dollar said he felt “... an urgency to get something done in the wake of rapid progress.”
For the book Dollar collected around 300 images and various oral histories, though only about 190 images were included in the book.
The book’s images showcase everything from farm work to former town officials to old cabins used for prostitution in the mid 20th century.
Find the book at stores in the Cary area or at Amazon.com.
