Hairdress Liz Toler of Artistic Hair Designers in MacGregor Village does a lot of 'updos" each prom season. In fact, she styled Christina Cramer of Allison Vita - two of four students we followed through their preparation for the prom.Toler said that updos have changed. "From 10 years ago they're more modelesque," she said. "They're runway inspired - messier, more casual."She said a lot of clients are inspired by TV shows they watch such as "Gossip Girl," "America's Next Top Model," and "One Tree Hill."The cost of an updo is about $60 while tanning booth visits are $10 each. French white nails professionally done are about $35.Beaucoup bobby pins and plenty of hairspray are involved in getting the right style. Approximate chair time is 90 minutes. "Always ask (the client) as you go so you don't have to take everything down," Toler said. "That's when a hairdo becomes a hair don't."
