The Brauns of Cary had just gotten home from a family vacation when they found out they’d be heading on another — this time expenses paid.

The family of four won a trip to Costa Rica after entering a video contest held by the ABC daytime talk show “The View.”

Mom Marley is a regular viewer, and she had heard back in March about a contest to win an Adventure by Disney vacation. Families needed to submit a one-minute clip telling why they should be chosen for the prize.

“I love 'The View' ... I [record] it. I’ve been to the show,” Marley said.

The family had a hint they might be in the final running when producers called to ask them if they had passports.

It wasn’t until the Cary family was announced the winner on the May 8 show that they realized they had won.

Just home from their trip — to Disneyworld — Marley was folding laundry and watching the show that morning.

“There are my kids on TV!” she recalls thinking. “I started screaming to the kids.”

Then the kids, Hayley, 11, and Jason, 8, were screaming. They started calling their friends from the neighborhood to come and watch the playbacks.

In the video, Hayley and Jason, who attend Salem middle and elementary schools, acted out a skit telling why they could replace each of the show’s four hosts.

Producers didn’t call until later that day, after the show aired. Marley said they told her the family’s video was selected from “hundreds” entered. Producers told Marley her family won because every time they watched the video, they laughed.

“They thought my son was hilarious, hamming it up for the camera,” she said.

The family will be taking the trip this summer, accompanied by one of the hosts on “The View,” Sherri Shepherd.

The guided vacation will include a trip to a rain forest, white water rafting, a twin-engine plane ride, a visit to a pineapple plantation and butterfly garden and more.

Marley said she’s always entering contests but never thought she would actually win big.

“Honestly, I couldn’t believe it,” she said.

As a bonus, the family will be in the audience later this summer when a segment from their trip is aired on the show.
