More than 100 students participated in the Cary Apex Piano Teachers Association’s annual Sonatina and Bullard competitions on Saturday, April 19, at the Cary School of Music.The CAPTA Sonatina Competition is now in its 14th year. Sonatinas help to strengthen musicianship and develop an appreciation for classical repertoire.The students who placed in the Sonatina Competition and performed at the Honors Recital are listed with their teachers:Level A

Juliana Jing of Cary won honorable mention in the Daniels Piano Competition at Furman University on March 21. Organizers of the competition chose 24 semifinalists from several hundred applicants to come to Greenville, S.C., and from those 24, six were chosen to play in the finals. On April 20 Jing was awarded the Senior Piano Scholarship by the Cary-Apex Piano Teachers Association, which she will use as a piano major at UNC-Chapel Hill. She has been a student of Brenda Bruce of Cary for nine years.
