The Professional Art Quilters Alliance-South, with the Page-Walker Arts & History Center in Cary, announces its sixth annual juried exhibition of innovative quilts, “ARTQUILTScultures,” April 25-June 25.As a product of our surroundings, we each live within cultural boundaries. Some prefer a soft reticent melody, while others embrace bold and provocative rhythms. Our love of color, symbols and style is influenced by culture: whether it be ethnic, religious, generational, institutional, of gender or the many other cultures that create interest in our world. You are invited to share in these interpretations of the cultures that inspire us, that make us who we are, or who we dream of being, in quiltart form.
The art quilts of 26 artists were selected from more than 100 submissions from around the world. Jurors L.M. Wood, associate professor of art from Elon University, and Peg Gignoux, an innovative textile artist whose work can be found throughout the Carolinas, spent hours finalizing their decisions.Works from North Carolina artists included in the exhibit are “Mary Dais”y by Janine Le Blanc of Raleigh, “Groovy Flower Power” by Cindy Cook of Raleigh, and “Guardian of Generations” by Selena Sullivan of Durham.
