Apex resident serves in Peru
Mariah Taylor of Apex joined Humanitarian Experience for Youth and served in Peru in June. She spent two and a half weeks with the program building school classrooms.
Cary singer participates in opera apprenticeship
Hailey Clark of Cary is an apprentice in the Apprentice Singer Program at The Santa Fe Opera this year. The programs 43 students study with faculty from The Juilliard School, Curtis Institute of Music, San Francisco Opera and Manhattan School of Music. Participants are trained in six languages as they perform in the chorus and supporting roles of five operas.
Cary students raise money for the SPCA
Adele Namboodri and Chloe Hasund of Cary, volunteers at the SPCA of Wake County, sold roses on Mothers Day at Mills Park Middle School and volunteered in the Mills Park Middle School Variety Show to raise $792 for the shelter. CareFirst Animal Hospital matched the donation with veterinary services.
Morrisville Girl Scout earns Gold Award
Arunima Punjala of Morrisville earned the Gold Award, the highest achievement in Girl Scouting. For her project, Smiles for a Change, she created a program to provide dental hygiene kits to women and children served by the Womens Center of Wake County. Each kit includes a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss and a guide to dental care. Her project will be continued by the Young Democrats club at Panther Creek High School. Punjala is a Panther Creek High School graduate and the daughter of Anuradha and Anil Punjala.
