Cool for Wake

Cool for Wake provides fans and air conditioners to Wake County residents in need during extremely hot weather. The program is collecting donations of new or like-new fans or money. Send or bring donations to the Community Resources Office of the Wake County Human Services Swinburne Building, 220 Swinburne St., Raleigh.

‘Morningside Fall’

Jay Posey will discuss and sign “Morningside Fall,” the second book in his “Legends of the Duskwalker” fantasy series, at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, at Barnes & Noble, 760 SE Maynard Road, Cary.

Open house

Contemporary Book Group

Video competition

North Carolina residents ages 18-25 are invited to submit short videos on the theme of “building cultural bridges” for the sixth annual Citizen Diplomacy Summit by Friday, July 11. The summit will be Thursday, Sept. 11, at The Cary, 122 E. Chatham St.

Videos must be four minutes or shorter. The grand-prize winner will earn $500, second place will win $250, and third place will win $100. For details, go to citizendiplomacy2014.org.

Arts, Crafts and Vendor Fair

Cary-based nonprofit Fit & Able Productions’ Healthy Homes Series will feature a discussion on healthy teens and young adults from 9:30-11 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, in the Maple Room of the Bond Park Community Center at Fred G. Wet down ceremony

The Morrisville Fire Department will host a wet down ceremony for a new fire truck from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, July 19, at Fire Station 1, 200 Town Hall Drive. Fire department staff will hose down the new apparatus, and participants will dry it off. The department encourages children to wear swimsuits and slip-resistant shoes to participate. There will also be cotton candy, drinks and tours of the fire truck.

‘Batman’ 75th anniversary

Barnes & Noble will host trivia, drawings for prizes, a costume contest and other events from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, at 760 SE Maynard Road, Cary. Come dressed as your favorite “Batman” character.

Ursula Vernon
