Wake to buy land for Amberly school in Cary

From staff reportsMay 8, 2014

— The Wake County school board agreed Tuesday to buy land for an elementary school in the Amberly development in western Cary.

The school board is offering $2.9 million for 18.25 acres between O’Kelly Chapel and Horton’s Creek’s roads.

The acquisition comes after Fifth Third Bank, the site’s owner, lost its appeal last year for permission from Cary to develop that parcel, mostly for apartments. The tract, at 2374 Yates Store Road, is in the heart of Amberly, a 5,000-home project.

The purchase is subject to the approval of the Wake County Board of Commissioners.
