A little more than a decade after graduating from Green Hope High, Colin Fegeley is the school’s new athletics director.
Fegeley, 29, has been an assistant AD for the last two years, coming from neighboring Panther Creek High with Wayne Bragg. Bragg announced in February that he will be going back into coaching next year as the head football coach at Holly Springs.
“It’s my dream job. I figured Wayne would be here a lot longer and it wouldn’t be a possibility so quickly. But obviously when it came open, it was something I couldn’t pass up,” Fegeley said.
Fegeley wrestled and played football for the Falcons and was part of the school’s first four-year graduating class in 2003. Green Hope is on track to win its fifth straight N.C. High School Athletic Association Wells Fargo state 4A cup, given to the athletic program with the best overall postseason finishes.
The Falcons have won 19 state championships since opening in 1999. This year they’ve won nine conference championships across 22 varsity sports.
“I enter this position very humbly. There are a lot of outstanding coaches that we have on staff here. I have a lot to learn from them as well,” Fegeley said. “
His plans for the school will be to build upon things that he and Bragg helped develop – a new athletics website and a streamlined eligibility process, for starters – and to build a family atmosphere.
That starts with developing a new Green Hope Falcons logo. Currently, different athletics programs at the school use different logo versions.
“There are about 400 falcons out there that have been associated with Green Hope,” Fegeley said. “Next year we’ll roll out a unified school-wide mascot early in the fall.”
Fegeley has not coached any sports at Green Hope since arriving but was a Falcons volunteer assistant football coach for a season while in college. He has also been an assistant football coach at Panther Creek – where he also was the head JV coach – and at a school in Philadelphia while in the Teach for America program.
