Apex, Cary, Holly Springs, Morrisville top list of safest cities in NC

April 23, 2014

Four western Wake County towns ranked in the top 10 of a list of the 50 safest cities in North Carolina compiled by a home-security company.

Holly Springs is the second-safest city, according to SafeWise. The town had .54 violent crimes and 1.94 property crimes per 1,000 people, according to the company.

Apex was ranked No. 4, with .84 violent crimes and 2.25 property crimes per 1,000 people.

Morrisville came in at No. 6. It had .56 violent crimes and 2.78 property crimes per 1,000 people.

Cary earned the eighth-place ranking, with .81 violent crimes and 2.62 property crimes per 1,00 people.

To compile its list, SafeWise looked at FBI data from 2012 that tracks violent crimes of aggravated assault, rape, murder and robbery and property crimes of arson, burglary, larceny and motor-vehicle theft. It calculated the chance of crimes happening out of 1,000.

The company considered towns and cities with a population over 5,000.

Fuquay-Varina came in at No. 40 on the list. It had 4.38 violent crimes and 7.53 property crimes per 1,000 people.

Pinehurst topped the list.
