SAS CEO Goodnight’s fortune estimated at $7.5 billion

SAS co-founder and CEO Jim Goodnight, by far the richest person in North Carolina, slipped 23 spots to No. 177 in Forbes magazine’s latest list of the world’s richest people.

Forbes estimated Goodnight’s net worth at $7.5 billion, down from $7.7 billion a year ago.

John Sall, co-founder of Cary-based SAS, ranked No. 408 on this year’s list at $3.7 billion. Last year, his net worth was estimated at $3.8 billion, which ranked him at 353.

One other North Carolinian made the list: C.D. “Dick” Spangler of Charlotte, who heads National Gypsum and is one of the largest individual shareholders of Bank of America, was ranked at No. 764 with $2.3 billion.
