Four boys state champions and one girls state champion from the southwestern Wake area helped form the 2014 News & Observer All-Metro swim teams.
Colin Ellington of Holly Springs, who won the 4A MVP with a record-setting victory in the 100-yard freestyle and a win in the 50, was a repeat selection from last year, as was Green Hope’s Jonathan Glavich (runner-up in 200 IM and 100 butterfly for the 4A champs).
Noah Cairns of Cardinal Gibbons won the 3A MVP award with victories in the 200 and 500-yard freestyles and also made the team, as did 4A diving champ Connor Callahan of Panther Creek and 4A 500 freestyle champ Justin Ress of Cary.
Green Hope’s Hannah Moore, who shattered the girls state record in the 500 freestyle by almost six seconds, made the team for a second year in a row, as did Panther Creek’s Haley Bishop (third in 100 butterfly, fourth in 50 freestyle).
Cary junior Christine Kerr, who was third in the 100 freestyle and fifth in the 50 freestyle, also made the team.
There were twelve swimmers and one diver on each squad.
