Hometown heroes: cross country

Freshman Erica Amatori (Green Hope, class of 2013) earned her first all-conference cross-country award by taking 10th at the Colonial Athletic Association championships for William and Mary in the fall. She also ran for the college at the Southeast Regional and the NCAA Championships and was the Tribe’s seventh runner in all three races.

Thomas Graham, Stanford: Graham (Cary Academy, 2012) had his season curtailed by sickness, racing just once.

Ryan Walling, North Carolina: Walling (Green Hope, 2011) had a fantastic season for the Tar Heels. He finished sixth at the Joe Hilton Invite, 13th at the Virginia/Panorama Farms, sixth at the ACC Championships, eighth at the NCAA Regionals and 64th at the NCAA Championships. The highest finish for teammate Bryan Noreen (Apex, 2011) was 11th.

Clay Jones, N.C. State: Jones (Fuquay-Varina, 2012) competed in three events for the Wolfpack, as did Bobby Mintz (Cary Christian, 2011). Bakri Abushouk (Cary, 2013) ran in just two meets, finishing third in one and 12th in the other.

Maura McDonnell, East Carolina: McDonnell (Green Hope, 2013) had her best finishes at the Seahawk Invitational, ninth, and 10th at the Pirate Invitational.

Olivia Enright, N.C. State: Enright (Green Hope, 2011), as well as teammates Deanna Foshee (Cary, 2011), Erin Foshee (Cary, 2011) and Sheridan Jordan (Cary, 2011) ran in just one event, the Three Stripe Invitational. Enright was fourth.

Aundrea Holmes, North Carolina: Holmes (Cary Christian, 2012) finished ninth at the Joe Hilton Invite, her best finish of three races this year.

Sarah Alexander, UNC-Wilmington: Alexander (Green Hope, 2012) raced just once, as did Allie Worsdale (Green Hope, 2013).
