Wrestling roundup: Holly Springs wins Hawk Duals

Holly Springs successfully defended its home tournament, the MyComputerCareer.com Hawk Duals, on Saturday with five wins to improve its season record to 23-1.

The Hawks fended off visiting St. Pauls, Western Harnett and Northern Nash, as well as conference foes Apex and Middle Creek.

Cary goes 5-0: Cary went undefeated at the West Stanly Duals on Saturday.

The Imps defeated West Stanly 45-29, Huntersville Hopewell 66-16, Mt. Pleasant 57-15, Central Davidson 60-24 and North Stanly 69-6.

Catamounts win Capital Duals: Panther Creek went 5-0 to win the Capital Duals tournament at Broughton on Saturday.

The Catamounts won the title by avenging an earlier regular-season loss to Athens Drive with a 54-27 win. Panther Creek also defeated Corinth Holders 49-22, host Broughton 51-16, East Chapel Hill 63-12 and Wilson Fike 56-19.

State rankings: The only place for statewide high school wrestling rankings is retrorankings.com, and many individuals have made the top 10 among 4A wrestlers.

Holly Springs has six ranked wrestlers: Aaron Redus (No. 3, 120), Cam Devers (No. 7, 138), Daniel Richardson (No. 5, 152), Travian Cooke (No. 6, 160) , Austin Galati (No. 5, 170) and C.J. Toogood (No. 9, 220).

Cary has four ranked individuals in Nick Tarvin (No. 8, 113 pounds), Parker Ragsdale (No. 1, 126), Kollin Wade (No. 8, 132) and Will Clark (No. 1, 138).

Apex’s Chance Davis is No. 3 among 126-pounders. Green Hope’s Ian Callahan is No. 7 among 195-pounders, and Panther Creek has two ranked wrestlers in junior Matt Stober (No. 10, 160) and senior Cameron Shaffer (No. 4, 170).
