Scholarship contest

The Fuquay-Varina American Legion Post 116 will hold its annual High School Oratorical Contest at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, at 6400 Johnson Pond Road. The winner of the state competition will receive $1,500; national winners will receive up to $18,000. Register by Dec. 14. Genesis Christian Preschool tours

Information for choosing a college

The Holly Springs High School PTSA will host “Finding the Right College for Your Child,” a program with Brooke Daly of Advantage College Planning, at 6:30 p.m. after the 6:15 p.m. PTSA meeting, Wednesday, Jan. 8, at Holly Springs High School, 5329 Cass Holt Road. St. Michael School open houses

The St. Michael School in Cary will host open houses. Here’s the schedule:

• 9-10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 9. Tours are 9-10 a.m., an information session is from 10-10:30 a.m.

• 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16. Tours are 6-7 p.m., an information session is from 7-7:30 p.m.

Green Hope Winter Dance Concert

Green Hope High School’s Winter Dance Concert with performances by all dance classes will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, in the school auditorium, 2500 Carpenter Upchurch Road, Cary. Admission is $5.

Kindergarten pre-enrollment

Thales Academy tour

Pre-kindergarten fair

The Wake County Public School System Office of Magnet and Curriculum Enhancement Programs will host a fair for parents of rising kindergarteners to tour Highcroft Elementary School and learn about the magnet program from 9-11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, at 5415 Highcroft Drive, Cary. IMProv at Cary High School

Students will perform in competitive IMProv shows at 7 p.m. one Friday a month through May in the drama studio at Cary High School, 638 Walnut St. Shows will be Jan. 24, Feb. 14, March 21, April 11 and May 16. Admission is $2.

Anxiety workshop

Dr. Aureen Wagner will lead a workshop for parents of kids with anxiety disorders or other problems with anxiety from 7-9 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, at the Davis Drive Middle School auditorium, 2100 Davis Drive, Cary. To register, go to bit.ly/1dkEWsM.

FAFSA Day

College financial aid officers and specialists will help high school seniors and their families submit their Free Application Federal Student Aid forms online during FAFSA Day, Saturday, Feb. 22, at State Employees’ Credit Union locations in Apex, Cary, Fuquay-Varina and Holly Springs. Wrestling club for future Panther Creek students

Panther Creek High School athletics and CREW Wrestling will offer a wrestling program for students in third through eighth grade who plan to attend Panther Creek High School.
